This recipe is inspired by all those 8 dollar drinks out there. A dirty Chai latte is just a Chai latte that is made with milk and Chai tea along with a shot of espresso. This frozen drink recipe has the same consistency of a Chick-fil-A frozen coffee.
Poured into a caramel glazed cup, the frozen dirty Chai latte will welcome you to the world of blended coffee drinks.
Espresso powder – This all star ingredient helps ensure the espresso flavor stay just right without the bitterness or melting factor of a fresh brewed shot.
Healthier swaps: I’ve also made this before leaving out the caramel & sugar and adding a scoop of vanilla whey protein powder. I enjoy this version too!
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup milk of choice
- 1-2 tbsp of espresso powder (depending on how strong you want your drink)
- 1/2 cup Chai tea – steeped and cooled or Chai concentrate such as Tazo . The concentrate really works best since it can already be in the fridge cold & is stronger than normal tea. If using concentrate, leave out any added sweeteners.
- 1 cup ice
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- caramel syrup – optional
- sweetener to taste – add sugar or sugar substitute if desired.
Directions
- Start by making your Chai tea. You only need about a half of a cup of piping hot water and 1 chai tea bag. Allow to cool as the tea steeps.
- Line your glass with caramel syrup. This optional step is inspired by our local Cuban restaurant. I thought I ordered the wrong drink when my chai latte came with caramel there. It’s a sweet addition.
- Add remaining ingredients to blender. Once tea has cooled down, add the tea and blend until smooth.
